Our Narrandera Origins
The story of Farrell Goode’s Narrandera office begins more than a century ago with a firm that helped shape the town’s legal and civic foundations.
It all started in 1897, when three ambitious young solicitors — Kershaw, Matthews and Lane — established their Sydney firm and opened a branch in Narrandera under the direction of E. C. H. Matthews. Over the next two decades, Mr Matthews built a strong legal reputation while also serving his community. He was a long-time Municipal Councillor and Mayor, overseeing the construction of the town’s first storm-water channel and leading numerous civic initiatives, particularly during the First World War.
When Mr Matthews returned to Sydney in 1917, O. O. H. Dangar joined the practice as a local partner, and the firm became known as Matthews & Dangar — a name that would remain part of Narrandera’s legal landscape for nearly a century.
Mr Dangar served the district with distinction for more than 35 years, representing the Municipal and Shire Councils and the P.P. Board. His dedication to both clients and community cemented the firm’s reputation for professionalism and integrity.
His son, Geoff Dangar, was admitted as a solicitor on 29 May 1936 and soon joined his father in partnership, continuing the family legacy. Aside from his service in the Royal Australian Air Force during World War II, Geoff devoted his career to the Narrandera community until the firm was taken over by Farrell Goode in 2011.
The practice evolved through many eras and addresses – from its original office at 122 East Street, later relocating to the former Council Chambers, and eventually moving into its purpose-built premises at 144 East Street in 1965, where it remains today.
Through every chapter, one thing has remained constant: a commitment to serving Narrandera with the same professionalism and community spirit that began over 125 years ago.
