The Fascinating Journey of Farrell Goode
The story of Farrell Goode begins in 1896 when Robert Campbell Dibbs arrived in Temora to manage his ailing cousin’s legal practice. What started as a temporary arrangement turned into a lifelong commitment when Dibbs bought the practice and settled in Temora.
In 1909, Michael Farrell began practicing law in Temora and soon joined forces with Dibbs to establish the renowned firm of Dibbs and Farrell. For nearly sixty years, this partnership was a prominent legal force in New South Wales.
Meanwhile, in 1917, Douglas Graham Walker began his practice at 72 Ariah Street, Ardlethan. This firm changed hands in 1927 when Stuart Dight of Moree purchased it for five hundred pounds. A decade later, in 1937, Dight sold the Ardlethan practice to Dibbs & Farrell, which continues to operate from the same historic premises to this day.
Andrew William Thompson, a war veteran who served as a tail gunner in North Africa and the Pacific, joined the legal field after World War II. He completed his articles at Tress Cocks and Maddox and returned to Temora in 1947 to take over John Jameson’s practice following Jameson’s death. In 1959, Thompson expanded by acquiring PF Meagher & Son, rebranding as Meagher and Thompson.
Darryl Goode joined Thompson’s practice in 1963, becoming a partner in 1964, and the firm was renamed Thompson and Goode. The passing of RC Dibbs in 1953 saw Jim and Bob Farrell continue the legacy of Dibbs and Farrell. By 1970, Dibbs and Farrell had merged with Thompson and Goode, forming Thompson, Farrell and Goode.
The firm saw further evolution in the early 1970s, becoming Farrell Goode and McRae with the addition of Ian Duncan McRae as a partner. The next major merger was with Lusher, Young, and Stelway, leading to the creation of Farrell Lusher.
Darryl Goode ventured out on his own in 1986, founding Darryl Goode & Associates, initially focusing on investment advice before resuming legal services in 1988 due to client demand. His son, Jason Goode, returned from Sydney after working at Tress Cocks and Maddox, joining his father’s firm in 1990.
The turn of the millennium saw the consolidation of the commercial practices of Farrell Lusher (Temora, Ardlethan, and West Wyalong) and Darryl Goode & Associates in May 2000. Darryl retired in September 2000, leaving Jason Goode as the sole practitioner to carry on the family legacy.
In 2001, Farrell Goode Pty Ltd achieved certification as a Quality In Law Level II firm, distinguishing itself as one of the few firms in Australia beyond the Blue Mountains to earn such recognition. The journey of Farrell Goode is a testament to resilience, legacy, and excellence in the legal profession.
